Well, if you think about it, staying in such zone means not allowing yourself to get “out” of it. Consequently, you probably will just stay inert for certain emotions and get stuck on restricted ways of thinking.

You can call this an emotional excavation of my delusion or maybe my expectation, whichever you prefer…

In this pendulum, the only one who’s maintaining its balance is just me or maybe right from the start, it’s just me who’s controlling it.

I’ve allowed myself to get deeper into that pit and yet I can no longer count the umpteen times I’ve endured the daggers that struck my heart.

Ka-Angkan Festival

Last Saturday, we attended the annual Ka-Angkan Festival which is a celebration of kinship and solidarity among Marikeños. The event started out with a parade of clans and was followed by a performance by the selected high school students in Marikina.

It was actually my first time to attend Ka-Angkan. I sort of felt obliged because our Tia Edna asked us to be there because our Tia Luming’s going to receive an award. However, due to the sick condition of Tia Luming she cannot attend the said occasion. Which is why in behalf of her, our Tia Edna took her place just for that night.

So there, that’s our City Mayor Del de Guzman handing over the award to Tia Edna.

9th April 2013 - Late post is late :p

Standing in the dark, together with Ara, we were taken to nirvana as we saw the beauty of experiencing music live! Yay!

Ara, my officemate-slash-friend introduced me their song, Standing in the Dark. I actually saw their music video on MYX before, but then I am not that keen on it since I thought they’re just the same as other bands, but no, I was entirely captivated by their eargasmic music. We then planned to attend their concert and yes, eventually the heavens heard our plea and then this much anticipated concert finally happened.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Lawson band, they are a British band consists of Andy Brown (acoustic guitar and lead vocals), Ryan Fletcher (bass guitar and backing vocals), Joel Peat (lead guitar and backing vocals) and Adam Pitts (drums). Their debut album is called “Chapman Square” carrying my favorite songs, Standing in the Dark, You Didn’t Tell Me, and Learn to Love Again.

Harking back to my experience of their live performance, I was so damn amazed by the vocals of Andy! It’s as if he just got out of my CD, lol. Anyway, Ara and I had the cheapest tickets that time but I can say we’re lucky enough since we can still see the sweat drifting off their bods as they perform. <3 I mean, they’re still conspicuous :p But really, I love how their performance had that emotional effect on me.

Aside from singing songs from their album, the Lawson band also did some renditions of Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jagger and Swedish House Mafia’s Don’t You Worry Child.

Right after their concert, we waited in line for an autograph signing sesh. Imagine that, we were able to see them up close and personal, in the flesh! This experience was definitely irreplaceable!

At the heart of the busy streets of Calderon in San Juan lies a haven where great food and cozy ambiance meets in a very fancy way.

La Creperie brings a touch of whimsical elegance to the busy district of San Juan and shuts out all the tiresome noise of the city. Definitely, it’s a breath of fresh air in the area.

Together with my co-bloggers-slash-officemates, we sort of had an excursion to La Craperie. We are very much excited and at the same time, ecstatic to try out their authentic French crepes since most of us have sweet tooth.

As I wander through the café, I can’t help but be in the state of astonishment as I see how dainty and posh the details of the place are. It looks perfect for a tête-à-tête and I bet this could be a perfect place for guys to bring their special someone.

The place has a solemn ambiance and has good music that serenades your ears each time you munch on their gastronomic delights. Not to mention, the clean and elegant interiors aren’t intimidating, in fact, they are inviting as if you’re transported into another realm. That moment, I felt like I was Alice in Wonderland. (I claim it!) :p

I really think that the place is perfect for a tea party as you can convene in the café that looks as if it’s straight out of a fairy tale.

Okay, enough of the babble about the interiors. Get your appetite ready now as I go to the most important part— FOODS!

La Creperie offers a wide array of choices from their menu and is very extensive. They serve both sweet and savory crepes and you even have the option of making your own. That night, we were lucky to meet Ms. Christine, one of the co-founders of La Creperie. According to her, most of the entrée from the menu are her own recipe which she actually came up with while she was globetrotting.

Le J.J. (Php 245), this crepe consists of ham, emmental and gruyere cheese, tomato, garlic and chili flakes. As it melts in my mouth, it has a little punch from chili flakes which makes it a bit spicy. However, the mixture of the elements of this grub truly complements each other, making it a very delightful crepe to chow down. And oh, this one also comes with a green salad that is probably the best idea ever, because it saves you from the overwhelming taste of the dish. Why Le J. J., you ask? I won’t spill the beans, you must visit La Creperie and ask the waiter to find out.

French Onion Soup (Php 185), what sorcery is this? I didn’t expect it to be oh-so delish! Onions aren’t my thing but this homemade soup definitely captivated my palate. It has a hefty amount of melted Gruyere cheese that somehow creates a melody of taste in my mouth. Definitely, it’s a perfect dish to start your meal.

Blanquette de Bouef (Php 395), if you want a delicious tender dish, then this one’s a good choice. This hearty meal is beef simmered in white wine, onions, carrots and cloves and is served with rice that is shaped like Louvre. Food presentation is adorbs!

Savoyarde Galette Crepe (Php 395), apparently, this is not your typical crepe as it’s made with lots of cheese, Hungarian sausage, bacon, marbled baby potatoes, cornichons (pickled gherkins) and pickled onions. This was hands down delicious, I tell you!

Pesto Cream Carbonara (Php 275), who can resist this rich-flavored dish? I’ve tried Carbonara before from other restos and cafes but this one is remarkable. It has lovely hints of other flavors from its spices and boy, they all had a good time in my tongue.

Salidou (Php 145), one of the gastronomic delights of La Creperie! Gotta love this crepe with salted butter caramel and whipped cream. It’s a must-try if you’re craving for something light and not too sweet. I just love it to bits!

Emmental and Mozarella Cheeseburger (Regular Php 295 / Large Php 385), this man-sized scrumptious meal is something you can blissfully gobble up! The burger patty is topped with melted yummy cheese and sweet caramelized onions and mushrooms. It will absolutely tickle your taste buds.

Double Chocolate Fudge Brownie Crepe (Php 235), this mouthwatering chocolate crepe topped with vanilla ice cream is heavenly delicioso! Foodies will surely totally gorge on this divine dessert.

But of course, to complete the culinary experience, we’ve also tried their specialty beverages including Angelina, Frrrozen Hot Chocolate and the luxury tea, TWG.

Angelina (Php 185), if you’ve been to Paris, you must’ve tried dining at Angelina. You don’t have to search far and wide to experience “Angelina”, La Creperie can deliver! This rich hot chocolate drink (60% cacao) served with large chocolate chips and whipped cream, is one of the deluxe item in their menu.

Frrrozen Hot Chocolate (Php 165), this luscious drink has delicate creamy chocolate that goes well with the sweet taste of the cream inside. No words could do this chocolate drink justice.

TWG, this finest tea in the world is available in a Single Tea Pot (with one refill) for Php 145, a Large Tea Pot (with unlimited refill) for Php 225, and as freshly brewed iced tea for Php 155. Tea party anyone? Sip on this world-class tea while enjoying their desserts.

HOLY WEEK 2013 // Walkway: Stations of the Cross

Holy week is the time of the year where we used to reflect on how our lovingly father sacrificed His son’s life to save us from our sins.

I’ve been hearing about Walkway since college, but sadly I wasn’t given the chance to try it out not until last 28th of March this year, my prayer has been answered. While everyone else has gone on their vacations in far off places, I opted to make my Holy Week much worthwhile, well for me. :)

Together with my fam bam, I went to Bonifacio High Street to check out “Walkway: Stations of the Cross”. To my surprise, there was a sea of city dwellers trying out the modern take on the traditional Stations of the Cross.

Oh well, so when you arrive at BHS, in the lawn area, you will see 14 black-painted boards with white texts on them. They speak about the 14 Stations of the Cross which most Catholics are familiar with. However, these stations are interactive, meaning they not only let you reflect on the happenings in each station but it allows you to partake in little activities in some specific stations. What struck me most was when I carried a wooden cross at Station 7.

Other than that, my heart really was touched at some stations where you actually get to pray for someone you don’t know, donate a little money, attach a photo of your mom on the wall to give gratitude to her, and hang a piece of paper where you’ve written names of important people in your life that you want to be blessed. Not to mention, I got somehow teary eyed when I walked inside a dark room and stepped out into the light. The solemn experience gave me some chills to my bones, really.

Other than that, one of those experiences that I won’t ever forget was when I nailed a red piece of cloth to a gigantic cross symbolizing the sin that I want to give up.

Overall, I must commend Church Simplified for organizing such a holistic event once again just to bring about a deeper understanding of who God is and what He did for the salvation of mankind through Jesus Christ.

Walkway capped off the event by an Easter Concert featuring one of the world’s famous Christian band, Jars of Clay. I wasn’t able to catch it though since we went there Holy Thursday.

Anyhow, after getting jaded, the family ate supper at Elias. Their foods were excellent but I must say service was extremely poor, maybe due to the flock of people they were serving that time but still.. Anyway, it didn’t hinder me from loving their garlic shrimp a.k.a. Carriedo :”) Also, their Tortang talong pie topped with kesong puti or Noli Me Talong is a must-try! They’ve recreated the Filipino dish into something much delightful. We also had Elias’favorite, baked oysters which I, unfortunately abhor the taste since I don’t eat oysters at all. Maybe, your palate would like it thou. :)

So there, that’s how my Holy Thursday went. I hope you enjoyed this entry as I’ve walked you through my incomparable experience.

Last 24^th of March was the birthday of my mother! Come to think of it, it’s also exactly a year since I graduated from college. Woo~ Time really flies so fast!

Harking back, the fam bam went to Robinsons Magnolia as planned by me and my sister— since both the mother and I haven’t been there ever since. We’re supposed to sink our teeth into Uncle Cheffy but at the very last minute, we opted to try Conti’s. Their foods are exceptionally delicious, I tell you!

So yeah, after roaming around the humongous mall, we went to the park to take snapshots of us and our OOTDs. Haha!

Jeez, we really do have a schizophrenic weather here in PH. Not to mention, I was never a fan of sunny days. However, the sea oftrendsfor this summer season makes me all giggly.

Pack away those sweaties and wollies, it’s time to show off more of your skin—I mean those legs and shoulders—and wear something that could beat the heat of the scorching sun.

As you can see, my sister is donning a vintage-y look by wearing my high-waist shorts. Anyway, in exchange of that, I borrowed her top from Forever 21. Oh, the perks of having a sister who has the same size as me. :”>

Apparently, my outfit shouts summer. My teal tie front top complements the floral skort I got from Bayo. And of course, I opted to wear my wedges just so I can make my legs look longer. What do you think about it? :)

It Was All But Shallow

Enviropop: Rescue Marine Creatures-- The Fun Way!

World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF) has been a steward of the environment. From the annual Earth Hour, people all over the globe join in hand in hand in their advocacy to conserve energy. Widely known as an organization that not just inform the people about the dire consequences of not taking responsibility of our environment, they also encourages them to participate in their projects of helping this world a better and a sustainable place to live in.

Hence, the organization notches up another milestone as they used an alternative medium to disseminate their noble intentions. Now, the generation of youngsters who are mostly tech savvies can now partake in saving nature. With just the use of their mobile phones, gadgets and other devices, they can enjoy a gaming application called Enviropop.

Enviropop is a puzzle game where you remove the sea hazards from the grid that threatens the sea creatures. Developed by AppLabs Digital studios Inc. (ADSI), it aims to eliminate the sea from its hazards and digitally save the six WWF characters namely Bobby the Butanding or whale shark, Clara the Clownfish, Doogie the Dugong, Gary the Grouper, Pattie the Pawikan or sea turtle and Dolly the Dolphin.

Players have one minute to clear on at least three seaborne threats by tapping and swiping on them across the screen. The host of sea hazards include dynamite, oil, cyanide, pet bottle and trawl net. The more hazards removed, the higher the score you get. Moreover, if Chi-Chi the Giant Panda is right beside a hazard chain, the score you earned will be multiplied 5 times. You may also share your scores via Facebook and Twitter and challenge your peers to beat you. This app is also inclusive of Enviropedia where you get to learn more about the WWF sea creatures.

WWF and ADSI recently launched the app last February 6, 2013 at Friday’s, Glorietta 2. WWF Ambassador Mr. Marc Nielson, ADSI Managing Director Mr. Oliver Ian Atienza, ADSI Chairman Mr. Azhar Khan, WWF’s Ms. Honey Carmona, Mr. Jose Ma. Lorenzo Tan, Mr. Rovilson Fernandez, media and other guests graced the event.

All youngsters and even adults can now enjoy Enviropop, the hippest and coolest way to save the sea.

Keep It Safe with Maddie and Matt's Safe World

Just as much as we would like to thwart that bottomless pit and protect ourselves from getting sucked into a black hole of the unknown, we would like to— I’m sure you do— prevent that same fate to happen to the next generation. We draw out unpleasant thoughts plaguing us and try to seek solace. Indeed, we often opt to surf the wave a little further until it crashes and we choose to shrug off some. However, we only end up getting a dire consequence.

No, I’m not talking about that thing you’re thinking about. I’m referring to safety. Thankfully, the kiddos and tots of this contemporary world can now be equipped with a solid defense— a safeguard against any forms of harm and violence. Besides, it all relies in our own hands and responsibility to hone their future.

The kids— the vulnerable and gullible ones— often are the victims of peril, mishaps, and even agony. They’re still too young to battle off this tough and mean world, really mean world. We, as adults on the other hand, often neglect to conform to the standards of the universe.

One of my fondest memories are the ones playing outside with my chums and family. I remember the lengths my mom would have to go through to get me inside our house. ReMINEd: Can I Put In Snow?

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… La la la laaaaa~

Although here in the Philippines, we don’t get to witness leaves falling from maple trees and we don’t (yet) feel a nip in the air, we still begin to shift our attention towards the famous ‘C’ word— Christmas!

Yes, the Yuletide season is definitely just around the corner with the upbeat jingles we hear at our favourite malls and with all the people pinching their pennies to adorn their houses with festive decors. It’s no doubt that in less than a month, we’ll start getting our best shopping heads on and cultivate that “obligatory” wishlist to ask Santa Claus.

For some, it’s that time again when they make an attempt to attain the things they’ve been jonesing for almost a year, however, it’s the other way around for me. I have that intense urge to buy things for others like my family and chums.

I usually make luxurious, unrealistic lists of things I would like to acquire but don’t have the means to get it all. Fortunately, there is an app that can definitely make me ~~(and even YOU)~~ go bonkers once I get a thing or two of the items I yearn for.

The good news is that the good elves of AppLabs Digital Studios Inc. heard the plea of the wishful thinker like me. They’ve developed an app for both iOS and Android devices called ReMINEd,a virtual wishlist that will remind me of the things I want to be mine. Yes, how about that rhyme I just made. Haha!

My ultimate priority: a Longchamp bag for my mother. Since she is a sucker for “red” stuff, I decided to buy her this best-est gift she’d definitely love. This particular bag is perfect for a working single mom like her.

Next would be a trip to the happiest place on Earth—Hong Kong Disneyland! But of course, I’d like to bring with me my family perhaps next year.:)

Update: Since my sister is planning to go to Malaysia next year, I might as well join her. :p

Last but definitely not the least, I want a Dr. Martens/Forever 21 boots. This goes perfect with any ensemble, don’t you think? ♥

So there. I might update it with more items since my relatives from the States are coming home this December.

Thanks to the ReMINEd app, I’m constantly reminded of the things that I usually forget. What I particularly like about it is that I can set a certain “priority level” to each item on my list. Other than that, I can set the date and time when I want to get notified of my goal. It’s a cool tool for motivation as well.
